Dr. James N. Weinstein is the immediate past chief executive officer and president of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health. He previously served as president of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Clinic, and was director of The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. Recently, Weinstein was appointed a visiting professor in the Northwestern Kellogg Business School and named as a senior fellow at the Tuck School of Business.
As Dartmouth Institute director, Weinstein co-founded the Master of Health Care Delivery Science (MHCDS) program and the High Value Healthcare Collaborative. He holds the Peggy Y. Thomson Chair in the Evaluative Clinical Sciences at the Geisel School of Medicine and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine. He served as chair of the NAM Committee on Community Based Solutions to Promote Health Equity in the United States and currently serves on the board of trustees for Intermountain Health System and on the advisory board for Geisinger Health System. Weinstein is an appointee to the special medical advisory group of the VA, relating to the care and treatment of veterans, and on a special task force in the re-organization of the military health system and TriCare.
In 2015, Weinstein was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, and in 2017 received the American Hospital Association’s Justin Ford Kimball Innovator’s Award. He’s been named one of “The 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare magazine and top “Physician Leaders to Know” by Becker’s Hospital Review. His most recent book, Unraveled: Prescriptions to Repair a Broken Health Care System, was published in February 2016.
