Profile: Dr. Schwartz's research focuses on learning how to enhance the quality of medical communication to the public, patients, physicians and policymakers. Her work (in conjunction with Dr. Steven Woloshin) has 2 main approaches: improving the quality of messages presenting health information to people, and preparing audiences to make sense of the messages they receive. Her main focus is on the communication of medical statistics and information about the benefits and harms of screening and prescription drugs.  She is the author, with Steven Woloshin and H. Gilbert Welch, of "Know Your Chances: Understanding Health Statistics."
