The Dartmouth Institute's faculty spearheads the CF Foundation national Learning and Leadership Collaborative to develop leaders and teach quality improvement principles and methods to interdisciplinary healthcare professionals at the 110 CF Foundation-accredited centers in the U.S
Based on the Dartmouth Clinical Microsystems approach, active learning in the collaborative takes place over a year’s time and is a blend of face-to-face meetings, including benchmarking site visits to high performing centers, web-based presentations, conference calls, and sharing via email listservs. Teams are asked to set global and specific aims based on their center-specific medical outcomes, diagnosis and treat their processes and patterns of care relevant to their outcomes, and implement proven “smart change ideas” based on best practice and evidence-based guidelines. Teams showcase their accomplishments at the annual national North American CF Conference by preparing storyboards and presenting at symposia and workshops.
Ninety-six CF care teams, caring for approximately 19,000 people with CF have participated in the collaborative since 2002.
