Dartmouth Institute Education Community Update
There is no precedent for the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic presents. We thank the many Dartmouth Institute alumni, students, and faculty whose professional life puts them on the front lines in public health and health care systems. We salute their service as they care for their patients and populations with courage and flexibility in a rapidly changing environment.
In this crisis, the need for integration between public health and healthcare is apparent. We wanted to share how The Dartmouth Institute has been responding to help equip our community to work toward the health of populations with a deep understanding of healthcare systems.
Summer Online Orientation and Classes
Dartmouth has recently made the decision to move all summer term residential classes to online delivery. This means that our summer orientation and classes for the on-campus MPH and MS programs, and the summer orientation for the online/hybrid MPH program will be held virtually.
Our experience developing and teaching online courses has fully prepared us to continue delivering the highly interactive educational experiences that Dartmouth is known for. Although we would much prefer to meet our incoming students in person, we are confident in our ability to hold an engaging and interactive online orientation and summer term.
On-Campus MPH/MS Summer Schedule
- Foundations Course: July 13-31 (this was already an online pre-introduction to the program)
- Orientation: August 3-5 (online)
- Summer Term: August 6-September 9 (online)
Online/Hybrid MPH Summer Schedule
- Pre-Orientation Module: July 13-31 (this was already an online pre-introduction to the program)
- Orientation: August 3-6 (online). Specific dates/times forthcoming
Rolling Admission and Scholarship Consideration for Summer/Fall 2020
We are committed to supporting our prospective students and applicants with helping them achieve their career goals in public health and healthcare. As such, we have extended our admissions process to offer rolling admissions and merit scholarship consideration for all applications submitted between April 15-June 15.
For applicants who submitted their application on 3/18/20 or later for Summer/Fall 2020, we are temporarily waiving standardized test requirements and TOEFL and IELTS test requirements. This measure will not affect prior admissions decisions. If you have questions about applying or want to learn more about our programs, you are welcome to email our admissions team or schedule a phone call.

Dartmouth Atlas Research
On the research front, our colleagues at the Dartmouth Atlas Project are providing methods and approaches to better understand the geography of the ongoing pandemic. They are also partnering with Microsoft Healthcare NExT to measure the risk of severe COVID-19 cases across the U.S.
Stay in Touch and Be Safe
There is substantial uncertainty about when the COVID-19 pandemic will end and “normal” life will resume. It is heartening to see the bravery and courage of people pulling together to support one another and their communities. Our sincere gratitude goes out to everyone risking their own health to help others in this time of need.
During this time, our connections and support of each other continue to be critical components of health and well-being. Please stay in touch and let us know if we can help in any way.
