Measuring Health System Quality, Value and Performance: To develop balanced measures of performance, that are used to manage and improve organization-wide performance and value of care for clinical service lines.
Working with many major organizations such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s IMPACT Network, the international Vermont Oxford Network of Neonatal Intensive Care Units, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Cystic Fibrosis Programs, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Medical Center, etc.
Leading Macrosystems and Mesosystems to Achieve Peak Performance in Frontline Microsystems: To develop self-sustaining healthcare systems that are capable of continually improving the quality and value of health care for individual patients and entire populations of people who receive health care.
Teaching materials being distributed to 2000 hospitals in the United States under the sponsorship of American Hospital Association, Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Premier Inc, and Voluntary Hospital Association. Books: Quality by Design, published in March 2007 by Jossey-Bass, and Practice-Based Learning and Improvement, in press, May 2007 (Joint Commission Resources). Teaching full courses to masters degree students and medical residents and fellows at Dartmouth’s Center for the Evaluative Clinical Sciences.
